In Loving Memory of Santos Garza Escamilla
October 28, 1942 – April 21, 2025
Santos Garza Escamilla, a devoted husband, loving father, and steadfast friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on April 21, 2025. Born on October 28, 1942, in Monterrey, Mexico, to Tomas and Teresa Escamilla, Santos was the fifth of eight children in a lively, loving, and hardworking family.
Santos’ life was marked by deep faith, unwavering love for his family, and a quiet strength that touched everyone who knew him. He met the love of his life, Barbara, at the First Baptist Church of Othello in 1961. They married the following year, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion and mutual support. Together, they built a beautiful life over 62 years of marriage.
A dedicated farmer by trade and passion, Santos found joy in the simple, fulfilling rhythms of the land. He especially loved tending to his garden, carefully raising his tomatoes, potatoes and jalapeños with pride and attention. When not in the garden, Santos could often be found fishing or cheering on his beloved Seattle Seahawks, always with strong opinions and a sharp wit that made him unforgettable.
Santos was preceded in death by his beloved sisters Judy Mendez, Terry Malacara, and Ruth Malacara; his brothers Tony Escamilla and Dale Escamilla; and his infant son, Timothy Escamilla. Their memories lived on in his stories and in his heart.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara; their three children, Cindy Escamilla-Patterson, Jeffrey Charles Escamilla, and Beck Escamilla; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Tom Escamilla and Paul Escamilla of Amarillo, Texas. His legacy of love, humility, and quiet resilience lives on in each of them.
Santos Garza Escamilla’s life was a testament to the power of love, the dignity of hard work, and the beauty of a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever bloom in the gardens he tended, the hearts he nurtured, and the family he cherished.
A viewing will be held on Friday, April 25, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Chapel (511 S 7th Avenue, Othello WA 99344).
Services for Santos will be held at First Baptist Church of Othello (1130 East Pine, Othello WA 99344) on Saturday, April 26th 2025 at 12pm followed by a luncheon.
