Obituary of Emigdio Reyes Jr.

Emigdio “Shorty” Reyes Jr., age 86, of Othello, Washington, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on Friday, March 13, 2015, at Avalon Care Center in Othello. He was born in Thornton, Texas, on July 16, 1928, to parents Emigdio Sr and Albudia Rocha Reyes. On November 17, 1951 He married to Juanita Aguilar in Littlefield, Texas. They moved to Othello in 1962, where he lived the rest of his life, raising two children. He had a passion for fishing, gardening and for the game of pool. He won many trophies playing in pool tournaments. He was an avid fisherman, spending most of his weekends on the water. Emigdio “Shorty” worked as Farm Foreman until he was forced to stop due to a injury. Emigdio “Shorty” was a calm, caring, giving man, and was a loving husband, Father, grandfather and friend to all. He will be dearly missed. He was survived by his wife of 64 years, Juanita Reyes of Othello, Washington, daughter, Dora (Carlos) Vargas of Othello, Washington, and son Emigdio “Migs” Reyes III of Othello, Washington, and Siblings; Marcela Sanchez of Brownsville, Texas, Hilde Reyes of Matamoros, Mexico, Artemio Reyes of Matamoros, Mexico, Petra Reyes of Brownsville, Texas, and Chano Reyes of Guadalajara. Emigdio also leaves 3 grandchildren Anthony, Bethany and Isaiah to cherish his loving memory. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emigdio Sr and Albudia Reyes, and siblings, Humberto Reyes, Loreto Media, Chon Reyes, Concepcion Reyes, and Hortencia Reyes. A visitation was held on March 18, 2015, at Stevens Funeral Chapel in Othello Washington. Mass was held on March 19, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Emigdio was laid to rest at the Bess Hampton Cemetery in Othello Washington.
