Obituary of Gary Ray Miller

Gary Ray Miller, long time Othello resident, passed away on March 11, 2015 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington with his wife and children by his side. He was born on October 2, 1947 in Powell, Wyoming to Clyde and Sylvia Miller. At the age of six, Gary and his family moved to the Columbia Basin, where he attended schools in Othello and Connell. Following graduation from Connell High School, he attended Yakima Valley Community College where he played baseball. After college, he farmed with his dad and then worked as an agricultural consultant for over 40 years assisting farmers all over the Columbia Basin in crop production. He is survived by his father and mother, Clyde and Sylvia Miller of Yakima, Wa., his loving wife, Carol at their home in Othello, Wa., his children Jason (Kathy) Miller of West Richland, Wa., Shannon Case (Jordan) of Richland, Wa., Joshua Miller (fiancé Caroline Mann) of Connell, Wa. and Scott Seachriest (Amy) of Puyallup, Washington and his grandchildren, Taiton, Garret, Kyle, Cheyene, Maykala, Kelsi, Tyler, Brandon, Nathan, Jocelyn, and Cannon. His siblings Debbie (Ted) Kudrna of Othello, Wa., Monica (Todd) Spencer of Wapato, Wa., Glenda (Bob) Heironimus, Diane Clift and Mark Miller of Yakima, Wa. His mother-in-law, Eloise McAmis of Othello, Wa., sister-in-law, Pat Hailey of Mesa, Wa. and brother-in-law, James (Karla) McAmis of Fort Worth, Tx. Gary enjoyed anything outdoors including hunting, fishing, playing baseball himself and coaching area youth baseball teams, a good round of golf, and the Seattle Mariners. But his enduring love was for fishing. He was a dedicated fisherman and could be found many days fishing the rivers and lakes all over Eastern Washington. His ability to teach someone how to fish and his ability to catch fish was well known by many on these waters. His greatest joy was to spend time with Carol on their boat and to teach his children and grandchildren the art of landing the big one. He cared deeply for the people in his life, was quick to lend a hand, and helped many in need. He was a man of integrity and honesty and was well respected. He had a great laugh, was quick with a smile and never met a stranger. He will be missed deeply by his family and friends and will live on in our hearts and minds in many great memories, and through the values that he taught each of us. Though his time with us has ended his family will not be mourning his passing but celebrating the life they shared with him. Sambasivan of Pasco, Wa. for his many years of outstanding friendship and care and Dr. Timothy Icenogle and the members of the Heart Transplant Team of Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Wa. for their loving dedication, care and support during the past three months. Even though Gary could not complete his journey to heart transplant, the family wishes to ask family and friends to support the important work of the organ transplant program by becoming an organ donor.
