Obituary of Marcella Thompson

Marcella Thompson, age 94, of Basin City WA, passed away January 30, at the Hospice House in Kennewick WA, surrounded by her loving family. Being one of seven children, Marcy was born and raised in Leadville, Colorado, a mining town high in the Rockies. In 1941, she married the love of her life, John Thompson. They lived in Leadville for several years before returning to John’s home town in Kansas to farm. In 1961, Marcy and John took their family and moved to Washington State, to homestead and develop their Columbia Basin farm from sagebrush. Marcy was an avid sports fan. She especially enjoyed watching the Seattle Mariners, ice skating, basketball and recently became a Seahawks fan. Marcy loved animals. Many a stray dog or cat would wander by her farm and her heart was always big enough to take in one more. She was extremely proud of her Irish roots. Being 100% Irish, she had the gift of gab and that spirited zest for life to the very end. Marcy embraced life with uncurbed enthusiasm. She dearly loved her family. She will be deeply missed. Marcy is survived by her four children John (Marti) Thompson of Fox Island WA, Terry (Faith) Thompson of Othello WA, Sue (Tom) Gideon of Brush Prairie WA, and Bill (Bonnie) Thompson of Kennewick WA, and her sister Bertha Johnson of San Jose CA. Marcy also leaves 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren to cherish her loving memory. She is preceded in death by her husband, John, 6 brothers and sisters as well as 2 grandchildren. A visitation will be held 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, February 6, 2015, at Stevens Funeral Chapel, in Othello. A celebration of life is planned for 10:00 am, February 7, 2015, at Stevens Funeral Chapel followed by interment at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens, in Othello.
