Obituary of Gilbert Joseph Vasquez
Gilbert Joseph Vasquez, age 92, of Royal City Washington, passed away December 29th, 2014 at his home surrounded by his living family. He was born in Omaha Nebraska on April 5th, 1922, to parents Paul and Petra Vasquez. Gilbert served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946. He was married to Stella Dominguez in 1951 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moxee Washington. Stella passed away September 11th, 2000. Gilbert worked as farm labor for the better part of his life. He was a member of the Catholic Church and the American Legion. He supported organizations like Boys Town, St. Labre Indian School, Native American Children’s Fund, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, and the local sports teams, Go Knights! Gilbert never felt like he missed church on Sunday when he was younger. He was in God’s Temple, working the land providing for others. When retired he enjoyed going to Mass and just visit afterwards especially with his special friend Esther Watkins. His was of saying I love you every day was a twinkle in his eyes, a smile, and a hug. He enjoyed hard work because it made him feel alive. It was what was inside him that made the man he was. He will be greatly missed by all! He was survived by his children: Eloise Vasquez of Royal City Washington, Mary Helen Vasquez of Royal City Washington, Joseph (Kathy) Vasquez of Ephrata Washington, and Rose Ann Vasquez of Royal City Washington, and siblings: Robert Sr (Anita) Vasquez of Moses Lake Washington, and Eloise (Vasquez) Herrera of Amboy Washington. Gilbert also leaves 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren to cherish his loving memory. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and siblings, Maggie (Vasquez) Espinoza, Delia (Vasquez) Lappier, and Viola Vasquez. A viewing was held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, January 9th, 2015, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Royal City Washington. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 am, January 16th, 2015, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Royal City Washington. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Chapel.
