Obituary of June F Huntzinger

June F. Huntzinger, age 96, long time resident of Royal Slope passed away June 17, 2016 at the Coventry House, in Othello, Washington. June was born January 13, 1919 in Unionville, Iowa, to Clyde and Mary Boyd. At the age of 15 she came west with her family, and they settled in Yakima, Washington. She graduated from Yakima Senior High School, Class of 1938. She met her husband Irvin and they were married in Yakima in 1939. They had a dairy and raised sugar beets. Their son Jim and daughter Elva were born in Yakima. In 1948 Irvin, his brother Don and father Frank bought a ranch on the Columbia River near Vantage. This is where June and Irvin raised their two children. Irvin dug new wells and developed more land, raised cattle, and on several hundred acres put in alfalfa. They lived there for 17 years. After Priest Rapids and Wanapum dams were built they decided to sell the ranch and then bought a farm on the Royal Slope. June and Irvin celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage, before Irvin passed away August 9, 1988. June and Irvin enjoyed square dancing. June loved gardening and playing pinochle. She was a member of the Royal Neighbor's club, Sage Hens Gardening club, the Washington State Cow Bells, and the Crab Creek Cacklers, but her primary passion in her life was cooking and her family.
