Obituary of William Louis Kummer
William “Bill” Louis Kummer, age 78, long time resident of Othello Washington, passed away March 25, 2016 at his home. He was born in Bayard, Nebraska on March 15, 1938. He grew up in Nebraska graduating from Lyman High School in 1956. From 1960 to 1966 he served in the 168th Artillery of the Army National Guard. He married the love of his life Diann Friesen in 1963 in Scottsbluff, Neb. and moved to Othello Washington in 1967.
Bill and his two brothers Clarence and Fred successfully farmed together in a partnership in the Othello area for over four decades. In a testament to their hard work, the Kummer brothers were named Conservation Farmers of the Year in 1981. He and Diann moved to the Tri-Cities in 2007.
Bill was a private pilot and had a passion for flying. He also enjoyed skiing, golfing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his son Jeff Kummer and his wife Cherie, of Falls Church, VA; son Greg Kummer and fiancé Lindsay Winder of Meridian, ID; siblings Clarence (Norma) Kummer of Richland, Fred (Rose) Kummer of Kennewick, Robert (Mary) Kummer of Hood River OR, David (Robin) Kummer of West Richland, and Mary (Al) Ward of Nampa ID, and Henrietta Ditton of Othello. Bill also leaves 3 grandchildren: Markus, Owen, and Grace Kummer, to cherish his loving memory.
Bill his preceded in death by his wife Diann; parents, Henry and Pauline Kummer, and two siblings, Sharon and Karen Kummer.
