Otimia Guerra

Obituary of Otimia Guerra

Family and friends will gather at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, June 11, 2016 to say goodbye to our Mother, sister and dear friend, Otimia A. Guerra. Our celebration is infused with deep sadness. It is impossible to sum up a life of a genuine and caring Christian soul. Those qualities were so obvious to everyone around her. She enriched and brought joy to the lives of her family, friends and people she met. We gravitated to her with our struggles and our prayer needs. She was a teacher to her children and grandchildren, because she taught us the importance of service. Her children and grandchildren have served others with the same joy in our local communities, Africa, both Central, and South America. Our mother was a gifted servant of God. Her faith in Father was unwavering. Otimia was born in LaSara, Texas to Luis and Maria Aguilar. As a child she and her two sisters attended a segregated school in Elsa, Texas. Her childhood years were spent in the Rio Grande Valley and in 1952 the family relocated and settled in the Lower Yakima Valley in Washington State. She was married to Gilberto "Beto" Guerra on February 20, 1970. They enjoyed 44 loving years of marriage before he passed away on July 8, 2014. For many years Otimia was a restorative care assistant at the Othello Convalescent Center. She had great compassion for the sick. She loved being busy and active in the Catholic church. She was a member of the Ultreyas y Escuelas as well as a member of Ladies of Faith Together group, a Eucharistic minister, member of the Grupo de Oracion and member of the Crusillo Movement. She was dedicated to visiting the sick and homebound. Otimia A. Guerra age 82, of Othello, Washington, returned home to our Father on June 1, 2016. She is preceded in death by her husband Gilberto "Beto" Guerra, her son Roy Nuno and her parents Luis Chavez Aguilar and Maria Rodriguez Cantu. She is survived by her children: Sylvia Juarez Weathers of Grandview, Washington, Joe Nuno of Seattle, Washington, Andres (Andy) and (Julie) Nuno of Edmonds, Washington, Anna Nuno of Othello, Washington, Ema M. Billings of Seattle, Washington and currently in Africa Lisa Guerra and (Chris Montoya) of Vancouver, Washington and Maria Lewis of Kennewick, Washington and Juanita Reyes of Othello, Washington. Otimia also leaves 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren to cherish her loving memory. A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, concluding with a rosary which will begin at 6:00 pm, Friday, June 10, 2016 at Stevens Funeral Chapel in Othello, Washington.
