Obituary of Marie Rose Herbert

Marie Rose was born to Jack and Marie Groot on May 4th, 1928 in Terry, Montana. Being raised on a small farm during the Great Depression, she learned early on that her unwavering faith in the Lord would sustain her throughout good times and hard times during life’s journey. She graduated from Marycliff High School in Spokane, WA in 1946 and attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing. It was at a Gonzaga University dance that she first made eye contact with a handsome young man. His name was Donald and thus began a romance and adventure that would span 65+ years. Don and Marie were married on August 4th, 1949 in Spokane. Their plans included Don continuing his education, while Marie worked to support them. When war broke, Don enlisted in the Navy and all plans were put on hold. With the ending of the war, they revived their dreams plus started their family. In 1959, they moved to Othello, where Marie assisted her husband in his optometry practice until 2003. Marie’s greatest gift was an openhearted kindness to all she met. She had a passion for life and loved to socialize. Her hobbies included baking, playing bingo, riding the Harley Davidson with Don, and any functions of her children. She was an avid animal lover. A devout Catholic, Marie maintained a belief in the Bible and a passion for her Savior, Jesus Christ. Marie is preceded in death by her husband Donald and siblings Dorothy and John. She is survived by daughters Colleen Herbert- Everett, Pam & (Van) Caryl- Edmonds, Mary & (Mike) McCourtie- Othello, Carrie & (John) Wenala- Seattle, sons Craig Herbert- Shoreline and Mark & (Julie) Herbert- Missouri City, TX. She had ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. For those who knew her, Marie’s passing will come with a time of sadness and reflection. Please know that she is dancing with Don again and in the arms of her Savior. We will think of her often and remember her as one who loved life.
