Obituary of Herman James Fielding

Long time farmer and resident of the Columbia Basin, Herman James Fielding, passed away August 26, 2016 in Othello, WA at the age of 98. Herman was born 3 December 1917 in Jamestown, ID, the 12th child of James and Eliza Fielding. He loved music and played the trumpet in his own dance band in the 1930s. Later his life revolved around church, work and family. He married Maude Dial and is the father of 6 children: Max Fielding, Lavina Fielding Anderson of Salt Lake City UT, Karen Fielding Barnum of Warden, WA, Lynn Fielding of Kennewick, WA, Arlene Fielding McCauley of Eagle, ID and Susan Fielding Drury of Sandy, UT. He and Maude moved from Moore, ID to Warden, WA in 1955 and from there moved to Othello, WA in 1972? He is survived by his six children and their spouses, 63 grandchildren and 102 great grandchildren. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Arkansas in 1938-1940, served as Bishop for in Moore, ID and Warden, WA, and a temple worker in Seattle and Kennewick for a combine 25 years. He and his wife, Maude, farmed east of Othello since 1962, grew kids, sugar beets, and potatoes. He helped innumerable people, especially those “down on their luck.” He supported the Reading Foundation that espoused readying children for kindergarten. All who knew him was blessed by his cheerful spirit. Funeral services will be held at the Warden, WA LDS Church on 1017 S County Road at 10 am Saturday September 3, 2016. Viewings will be held Friday Sept 2, 2016 at Stevens Funeral Chapel 511 S 7th Ave in Othello, WA from 7-9 pm and Saturday September 3, 2016 at the Warden LDS Church 1017 S County Road from 8:30-9:30. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Warden on County Rd.
