Obituary of Loren Hilmes

Loren “Dink” Hilmes of Othello, Washington lost his battle with lung cancer and died peacefully at his home on January 28, 2019, surrounded by family. 

 

Loren was born on September 19, 1940 in Ransom, Kansas to John H. and Dorothy M. (Papst) Hilmes.  He graduated from Ransom High School in 1958 and married Donna (Dinkel) Hilmes on October 20, 1962.  The couple moved to Othello, Washington in July of 1964 where Loren worked with 3 of his brothers at Hilmes Construction, Inc. until his retirement in February 2003.

 

Loren and his family spent many a summer weekend boating, water skiing, camping, and socializing with friends and extended family.  Loren had several hobbies, and most of all he loved to fish and hunt with his buddies, especially Jerry Rea and Chris Faix.

Loren is survived by his wife, Donna and his 3 children: Cynde Elrod of Ephrata WA, Sandy Jackson of Redmond WA, and Kathy Watanabe (Gordy) of Fall City WA. 
He is also survived by three grandchildren: Jennifer Spigner of Kennewick WA, Michael Spigner of Renton WA, and Brandon Jackson of Redmond WA.

 

Loren is also survived by sister Mary Klitzke (Max) of Ellis KS, twin sister Loretta Ummel of Lindsay OK, brothers Marvin L. Hilmes (Linda) of Othello and Ronald W. Hilmes (Janeth) of Troy, MT, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.

 

Loren was preceded in death by his parents John and Dorothy Hilmes, sisters Johnetta Matter and Mildred Keller, and brothers Francis, Chester, Harold, Robert and Steven Hilmes.

 

At the family’s request, no services will be held.
