Teresa Cervantes Montoya Una amada esposa, madre, abuela y bisabuela fue a casa para encontrarse con nuestro Padre Celestial el martes 11 de agosto de 2020 en su casa en Othello, Washington rodeada de su familia cercana. Teresa nació el 24 de noviembre del 1935 en San Miguel del Cuarenta, Jalisco, México hija de Andrés Cervantes y Virginia Moreno. Ella era una de diez hijos. Teresa se casó con Gregorio “Shorty” Montoya en 1956 en Durango, México. Se mudaron a Othello, Washington con su familia en los años 1960. Una orgullosa ama de casa que trabajó en la agricultura en el área Columbia Basin, Teresa enseñó a sus hijos tres de sus valores fundamentales: la ética laboral, el valor de una buena educación y la importancia de mantener las conexiones familiares. En los años 1970 y 80 's, Teresa y su familia participaron en varios eventos comunitarios y de la iglesia católica, como el Festival Comunitario de Othello y el Rodeo y Feria del Condado de Adams. La familia Montoya ingresó a la carroza familiar en el desfile anual representando a la comunidad latina en las Fiestas Patrias de la Iglesia Católica del Sagrado Corazón celebrando la Independencia de México. Teresa inscribió sus jalapeños y encurtidos enlatados en las ferias del condado de Adams y Chelan y ganó el primer premio. Las posadas fueron definitivamente unas de sus reuniones familiares favoritas, secundadas por “El Día de la Candelaria”. Ella les enseñó a sus hijos y nietos la importancia del nacimiento de Cristo y cómo Él es la luz de sus vidas. A Teresa le encantaba entretener con unos buenos tamales, chocolate mexicano y sus sabrosos buñuelos. Cocinar, enlatar, hornear y pasar tiempo con su familia y amigos eran algunos de sus pasatiempos favoritos, pero su mayor pasión era pasar horas atendiendo con amor su jardín. Tenía un gran corazón y una forma de hacer que las personas se sintieran parte de la familia. Teresa siempre mostraba su amor asegurándose de que todos estuvieran bien alimentados. Los que comían sus tortillas de harina caseras siempre volvían por más!!! Las cenas de Acción de Gracias siempre incluían sus famosos “pies” (tartas) y “biscuits” caseras. Ella siempre se aseguraba de preparar suficiente comida para enviarte a casa con un plato. Su fe católica era muy importante para Teresa, y disfrutaba participar en varios ministerios parroquiales. Teresa rezó con devoción el Santo Rosario todas las noches antes de dormir asegurándose de estar en los brazos de Nuestra Madre Celestial. Renovó su sacramento bautismal consagrándose a Jesús a través de la Virgen María el 9 de junio de 2018. Teresa fue precedida en la muerte por su esposo Gregorio “Shorty” Montoya, su hijo David Montoya y su nieto Luis Montoya. Es sobrevivida por cinco hermanos: Altagracia Moreno, José Cervantes, Miguel Cervantes, Baltazar Cervantes y Sergio Cervantes, por sus seis hijos: Fernando Montoya, Felipe Montoya, Rosamaria Montoya, Virginia Alcaraz, Teresa Contreras, Leonor Hernandez y sus 19 nietos y 37 bisnietos. Teresa será profundamente extrañada por su familia, amigos y la comunidad de su iglesia. Se pueden hacer donaciones conmemorativas en memoria de Teresa a su organización favorita, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital en su nombre, en la que apoyó durante los últimos 40 años. Teresa Cervantes Montoya A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother went home to meet our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 11th, 2020 at her home in Othello, Washington surrounded by her immediate family. Teresa was born on November 24th 1935 to Andres Cervantes and Virginia Moreno in San Miguel del Cuarenta, Jalisco, Mexico. She was one of ten children. Teresa married Gregorio “Shorty” Montoya in 1956 in Durango, Mexico. They relocated to Othello, Washington with their family in the 1960’s. A proud homemaker who worked in agriculture in the Columbia Basin, Teresa taught her children three of her core values: a strong work ethic, the value of a good education and the importance of maintaining family connections. In the 1970’s and 80’s, Teresa and her family participated in various community and church events such as the Othello Community Festival and Adams County Rodeo and Fair. The Montoya family entered the family float in the annual parade representing the Latino community from Sacred Heart Catholic Church’s Fiestas Patrias celebrating Mexico’s Independence. Teresa entered her canned jalapenos and pickles in the Adams and Chelan County Fairs winning 1st prize. The posadas where definitely her favorite family gatherings only seconded by “El Dia de la Candelaria”. She taught her children and grandchildren the importance of Christ’s birth and how He is the light of their lives. Teresa loved to entertain with some good tamales, Mexican hot chocolate and amazing buñuelos. Cooking, canning, baking and spending time with family and friends were some of her favorite pastimes, but her greatest passion was spending hours lovingly tending her garden. She had a big heart and had a way of making people feel as if they were part of the family. Teresa often showed her love by making sure everyone was well fed. Those who ate her homemade flour tortillas always came back for more!!! Thanksgiving dinners always included her famous homemade biscuits and pies. She always made sure to make enough food to send you home with a plate. Her catholic faith was very important, she enjoyed participating in many areas of parochial ministries. Teresa devotedly prayed the Holy Rosary every night before going to bed assuring she was in the arms of Our Heavenly Mother. She renewed her baptismal sacrament consecrating herself to Jesus through The Virgin Mary on June 9th, 2018. Teresa was preceded in death by her husband Gregorio “Shorty” Montoya, their son David Montoya and grandson Luis Montoya. She is survived by five siblings: Altagracia Moreno, Jose Cervantes, Miguel Cervantes, Baltazar Cervantes and Sergio Cervantes. Teresa is also survived by her six children: Fernando Montoya, Felipe Montoya, Rosamaria Montoya, Virginia Alcaraz, Teresa Contreras, Leonor Hernandez, as well as 19 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. Teresa will be deeply missed by her family, friends and church community. Memorial donations in memory of Teresa can be made to her favorite charitable organization, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her name which she supported for the past 40 plus years.
