Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Jo Harvey was born September 6, 1974, in Logan, Utah and went home to be with the Lord January 12, 2023. Mary Jo committed her life to serving God on November 11, 1989. She is the much-loved daughter of Mike and Vickie Ruble, wife of Cameron Harvey and mother to Liam and Sam Harvey. She is sister of Jennifer, Mike, Pete and Andy. Mary Jo spent her childhood in Idaho, Arizona and Utah and graduated from Lynden Christian Schools in Lynden, Washington. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Education from Western Washington University. After several years of thoroughly enjoying teaching, Mary Jo went back to earn her Administrator Certification. As the principal of a homeschool outreach program, she grew the organization to more than 1,000 students. Mary Jo then became a director for a major school district but soon realized she missed working directly with students. She went back to the classroom where she used her energy, creativity and love of learning to engage and inspire students. Mary Jo was an avid reader. She was also very involved with educating students and members of the community about civics and political issues. Much of her time was spent at the Washington State Capitol advocating for home educators and discussing public policy with legislators. Throughout her career, Mary Jo lived by two simple phrases posted on her classroom wall: “Be Kinder than Necessary” and “Assume Positive Intent”. Services will be held at 3:30 on Friday, January 20th at McFarland Middle School, all are welcome to attend.
