DOB 07/17/1946 DOD 08/12/2024 Written & provided by family Michael Harvey, age 78, of Othello, Washington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 12, 2024. Born July 17, 1946, in Redlands, California, he was the youngest son of Joseph and Wilma Harvey. A graduate of Redlands High School, class of 1964, Michael embarked on a life of service. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Yorktown from January 14, 1966, to December 14, 1969. During his tenure, he completed three tours of duty in Vietnam and participated in the historic rescue of Apollo 8. His ship further gained notoriety for hosting the cast of the film “Tora! Tora! Tora!” during its production. Michael's dedication to his country was unwavering. Upon his honorable discharge, Michael returned to California and continued his family’s beekeeping business while driving truck. He later relocated to Idaho and subsequently to Othello, Washington, where he worked for the irrigation district for 28 years. A lifelong beekeeper, he owned and operated Busy Bee Apiaries. Micahel was a devoted husband to Jaelee Harvey, his loving companion of 41 years. He was a cherished father to Jay Taylor (Tracie), Jennifer Garza (Roy), and Michael Harvey Jr. (Fern). A proud grandfather, he leaves behind eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A beloved brother to Linda Lindsey and Claudia Harvey . He was preceded in death by his sons, John and Jimmy Taylor, his brother Blaine Harvey and sister Diana Dawn Harvey. Michael was a kind hearted and jovial man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Michael was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In his later years, he actively participated in the local Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter. A memorial service to honor his life will be held on August 24th 2024 viewing at 10AM and service to follow at 11AM at 1200 E. Rainier St. Othello, WA 99344.
