Gunner Cray Mathis
December 27, 1993 – December 13, 2024
On December 13, 2024 in Basin City, WA, Gunner Cray Mathis (30) arrived in his heavenly fathers’ home. He’ll be remembered by his love of all genres of music, quick wit tossing out jokes to light up the room, and a smile that brought warmth to the hearts it touched.
Gunner was born on December 27, 1993, to Mark and Mary Mathis of Basin City. He attended North Franklin School District graduating from Connell High School in 2012. He was an active participant in school sports, 4H activities, and summer baseball leagues.
Gunner loved to be in the outdoors especially fishing, hunting and snowboarding. The biggest joy in his life was when Tegan, his daughter, was born in 2014 and she grew to love all these same cherished hobbies that she can now carry on in his memory.
Quiet by nature, Gunner opened up once he got to know you. He had a huge heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back, if he knew you needed it. He will forever be remembered as a beloved son, a cherished father, an admired brother and will be eternally missed by all who knew him.
Gunner is survived by his daughter, Tegan; parents, Mark and Mary Mathis; sister, McKenna Beal (Cobi); nephew, Crew; grandparents, Virginia (Dennis) Barrow, Arnold Schmelzer, Sr., Donna Schmelzer; numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Doyle Mathis; sister, Kayla; uncles, Arnie Schmelzer and Coy Mathis; cousin, Mary.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Stevens Funeral Chapel in Othello, WA preceded and followed by a social.
Memorial gifts may be donated to a college savings fund set up at Gesa Credit Union for Tegan D Mathis.
